Academics

I-1 takes academics very seriously, always making sure that cadets put school first and the Corps second. Every "black belt" (freshmen & sophomores) must attend the daily "Call to Quarters," a mandatory study time where they stay in the dormitories to study for three hours every night (Mon-Thurs, Sun). In addition to these hours Freshmen are required to study an additional 10-12 hours per week on their own, aiming for the "40 hour academic work week." From 0800 - 1630 Cadets are students, and are encouraged to focus entirely on academics.

This extensive studying regime has been extremely successful for I-1, placing I-1's overall outfit grades (specifically the Freshman class) consistently in the top half of the Corps' academic standings. Cadets live by the standard that they are majoring in School, and minoring in the Corps.

Many resources are also available to I-1 cadets. We have our own academic advisers available to help, as well as financial aid for tutoring programs such as 4.0 & Go. Every black belt is assigned an upperclassmen to be their "white belt mentor." These mentors help keep underclassmen on track and on top of their schoolwork and offer study sessions and one-on-one tutoring. I-1 is a non-technical outfit, so we welcome cadets of all majors.
