I-1 is one of the oldest outfits on campus. Established in 1969, I-1 has never been reformed or disbanded. As such, there are many traditions exclusive to I-1 and is not uncommon to hear other cadets say, "I wish we did that."

Over the past fourty years, I-1 has commissioned countless officers into the Army and occasionally into the Air Force, Marine Corps and Navy. Today, I-1 has officers from 2nd LT to General serving our nation all over the world. Many I-1 officers are currently in Iraq and Afghanistan.

On March 31, 2001, I-1 XO and Ranger Challenge Commander 1LT Doyle Hufstedler was killed in Iraq when an improvised explosive device detonated near his convoy. We are forever grateful for his courageous service.
